Matthew 20:26-28 “Not so with you. Instead whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first, must be your slave – just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (NIV)

For some of us serving does not come easily. We are bombarded with the messages of me first and encouraged to take care of ourselves, sometimes at the expense of our neighbor. Our young people are growing up with an increased feeling of entitlement that encourages this self-centered attitude. However, to be great in the eyes of God we must actively become His servant. We need to humble ourselves and roll up our sleeves and take care of those around us. Yes, it will take some time. Yes, it will take some effort and some intentional planning. But it is God’s command that we serve others, so I think we better get started. God I ask you to open our eyes and hearts to the opportunities you have given us to serve, and then get us moving!
