Job 16:2 I have heard many such things; miserable comforters are you all.

If you recall this passage then you know that Job has had to listen to some pretty condemning "comfort."  Rather than talking, it would behoove us to listen as we try to comfort others.  Sometimes that is all a person needs.

Today, try to make a concerted effort to stop and listen to someone.

Nehemiah 8:18  And day by day, from the first day to the last day, he read from  the Book of the Law of God... (ESV)

Ezra was reading to others, but this is still a good personal practice:  to read from the Word of God every day.  It is the best way to begin your day and end your day.  There is nothing like waking up to the Word and letting the Word penetrate your brain as you lay your head on the pillow at night.
I urge you to try it this day.  It won't be long before it will become not only a habit, but a necessity.

Romans 7:8  For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh.  For the desire to do what is good is with me,  but there is no ability to do it. (ESV)

Can you identify with this struggle?  I just keep going back to it, and thinking I should learn my lesson.  My only consolation is that Paul struggled like I do.  I encourage you to read all of Romans 7 and really devote the upcoming days to trying to be an overcomer.

Luke 1:46  And Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.  (ESV)

When we consider the context of this verse, it is sometimes hard to believe Mary had such a wonderful response to God.  She was in a very precarious situation, but she trusted her Savior.  I can't imagine what all was going on in her mind as she pondered Gabriel's announcement.

But for us, this verse causes us to stop an consider our predicament or situation we find ourselves in.  Are we magnifying the Lord, remembering He is our Savior?  If not, we should be.  We can't let our situations dictate our response to God.  We need to be like this young girl in the Scriptures rejoicing in our Savior, as we magnify Him.

Exodus 3:14  And God said unto Moses, I am that I am....(KJV)

From an English teacher's perspective.... this name explains God's eternal being.  If He were alive in the past only... His name would be- IWas.  If He were just to be in the future, His name would be I Will Be.   Instead we find that no matter when you utter His name, IAm - You are always correct because He will always be. I love it!!!

Genesis 1:1  In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth. (ESV)

At Bible Study yesterday we decided this was basically an overview.  The beginning of creation was water.  Give it some thought and some study.  God separated the bottom waters from the top waters.  Then He separated the land from the water.  I have a lot to think about.  How about you?

Acts 1:14  These all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer...(NASB)

This verse is one that played an important part of the Welsh Revival years ago.  Someone once said that the most important meeting of the church is the prayer meeting.  Our churches need to be in prayer.  Won't you agree with me in prayer for revival:  of the heart and the country.
