Proverbs 28:27 Whoever gives to the poor will not want, but
he who hides his eyes will get many a curse.
This is one of those great truths found in
the Bible that goes counter to the world's thinking. Most people would
think you give away, and you will be lacking. That is not what Scripture
says. It gives the indication that if you are generous with the poor, you
will not want for anything you need.
During the Lenten season, one of the
spiritual disciplines we focus on is giving. You don't have to look far
to find the poor. And I believe that giving is also giving of yourself:
kindness, your time, and your talents. Go ahead see if God's Word
isn't true - give and give generously.
