I Chronicles 6  The sons of Levi:........

When one reads this 6th chapter of I Chronicles, he/she finds a long list of people with names he/she can hardly pronounce.  Why on earth did God feel the need to include all these names in the Word?  What can it possibly mean to me?  Why should I read through this long list of long-gone people?
Aha!  These were the first of the people to whom God entrusted the sacred service of his temple and worship.  These generations sought the face of God.  These are the beginning of the priesthood, of which we are now called as Christians.

These are our spiritual "parents".  We are joined with them by the mortar of the covenant God made with them and us.  Though we are tempted to skip these names, instead let us take time to think of them, even thank them for some of the examples they have set for us.  Even some have shown us a way to not worship the Lord, like with "strange fire."

As we worship the Lord today let's remember the duration of the worship and the service of our God.  Let's take our calling more seriously as we go forth to serve our God and remember from whence we came.
