Joshua 16:10 They did not dislodge the Canaanites living in
Gezer; to this day the Canaanites live among the people of Ephraim but are
required to do forced labor.
If you are familiar with the conquest of
the land God had promised the Israelites, you will remember that He told them
to wipe out the people totally. They were to destroy them completely, so
they would not worship their idols.
Looking at the above Scripture we find
they did NOT dislodge the Canaanites who were occupying the land. It
reminded me that we are not so very different. How often we don't
dislodge the sins that occupy our hearts and cause us to worship idols.
It is so easy to point the finger at the Israelites when we read this
passage, but we need to be careful. I am convinced God shares these
stories with us to teach us something about ourselves in order to repent and
turn back to Him.
If you are reading this during the Lenten
Season, use it as a reminder - not only to turn back to God, but do it quickly.
It doesn't take Satan long to gain a foothold.
